Based in Italy I’ve taught for the Open
University for the last ten years, tutoring A 102 and then A103
both in Milan and Rome. I gained good experience for the Edfest
Summer school through tutoring the hugely enjoyable OU residential
schools in Bath and Stirling. In Italy I organise trips for
students to art galleries and exhibitions as well as to the
Colosseum. I have degrees in Archaeology and Literature and
having finished my OU MA I am now working on a PhD in Mediterranean
Archaeology with a special interest in Sardinia. I regularly
give study skills workshops for OU students in essay writing
and exam techniques. With Muriel I decided to organise the Edfest
Summer school to give students the chance to meet and discuss
A103 in a friendly, stimulating and informal atmosphere enjoying
art in performance at the Edinburgh festival.

I combine creative and academic interests
with an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.
Starting with a BA (Fine Art), I studied art history and literature
as well as studio work (specialising in sculpture) at Michaelis
Art School, University of Cape Town But politics and family
intervened until I got my ‘second chance’ with the
Open University which led (via London University and Columbia
University, New York) to post-graduate qualifications in art,
literature and education - including writing skills.
My experience is international having lived and worked in Africa,
England, America and Europe. I now live in France and have been
an OU tutor for the past fifteen years. I love tutoring A103,
especially at 'summer school' with its lively atmosphere and
mixture of students. I’ve also been lucky enough to go
to the Edinburgh Festival on and off for many years - and since
1995 have enjoyed introducing A103 students to stimulating events
(theatre, music and art exhibitions etc) which link with the
course and bring it to life.
