What is the Edfest summer school?

The Edfest Summer School is designed around the Open University Arts Foundation Course, A103 but is open to anyone interested in the arts and performance.
It takes place in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival, which includes the International Festival, the Fringe, the book festival, the film festival and much more…

Who is it for?

A 103 students: we cover topics from studying sonnets to 'the 60s' from Warhol to Rothko, preparing you for TMA08 and 09.
For A103 graduates and other culture vultures: you can join us for the pre-booked theatre, concerts, art exhibitions, lectures - and join in our own poetry and play reading event.

Why at the Edinburgh Festival?

Because the Edfest Summer School is very much part of the explosion of the arts that goes on in Edinburgh in August with

  • world famous musicians, actors, theatre and dancers performing in concert, plays and dance events of the International Festival
  • the vibrant Fringe which includes all kinds of performance from street theatre to Shakespeare, from Greek comedy to avant garde mime, from the sublime to the ridiculous!
  • the book festival where you can hear writers talk about their latest novels, you may opt for Wendy Cope or Rony Harison on poetry - or even try your hand at writing poetry by joining an OU workshop - we'll see what 2008 offers us
  • The film festival – but unless you are a buff there won’t be time!

What if you're an OU student studying another course, have done A103 - or a partner or non OU student? Or have always wanted to come to the Edinburgh Festival?

We welcome anyone interested in the arts to join us. Our booked events are chosen for their quality and interest as much as their relevance to A103. You can join the group on all outings to plays, concerts, exhibitions as well as for the tutor introductions and the discussions afterwards.

This will leave you with the time to sample the other delights of the festival. We will help you choose from the bewildering programme of thousands of events going on in venues all over Edinburgh.

NB Numbers are limited so book your place soon.
