the Edfest summer school?
It is a 5 day summer school for adults that takes place during the Edinburgh Festival and is lots of fun. As well as seeing outstanding performances by famous companies (theatre, music and dance) we offer lectures, discussions and introductions – and optional lessons for improving your English.

Who is it for?

The details
- we only work with small groups
- you are well looked after from the start when we meet over a delicious dinner before going to a festival event.
we offer:
- discussions of what we have seen and introductions to what we are going to see,
- and (optional) English lessons tailored to your ability.
- we book the best of the official festival events and take you to outstanding theatre, dance productions and concerts.
- we make suggestions for visiting lectures, talks and exhibitions, getting the most out of your free time.
- Each day we introduce the evening’s performance: art, dance, acting, theatre, literature
- we lead visits to exhibitions.
- you’ll have plenty of free time to explore Edinburgh with all its attractions – architecture, famous streets full of festival fun, restaurants , pubs, gardens, walks, views and much else.

When is it?
There will be two starting dates this year. We start by booking up
- 5 days starting from the afternoon of the 18th August
- then 5 days starting from 25th August
The essentials – all included in the price
- single Bed and Breakfast accommodation in a university residence in a beautiful setting near the centre of Edinburgh. It includes a traditional Scottish breakfast.
- an introduction to Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Festival with its range of possibilities – exhibitions, theatre, music etc
- a convivial dinner together on our first night
- 3 outings to evening performances (music/theatre/dance etc) at the ‘Edinburgh International Festival’ by world famous companies
- introduction to these performances – plus informal discussions afterwards
- a visit to an art exhibition led by an art historian
- small group English lessons led by experienced language teachers
- We organize a poetry reading evening - and ask you to bring a few of your favourite poems.
You don’t have to read them but most students enjoy the chance!
